History

Rockport Presbyterian Church was formed in 1855 as The Second Mansfield Presbyterian Church and has been serving the Lord in this community continuously since then.  Land for the church and cemetary was donated by David C. Davis, who had inherited from his father over 500 acres of land in Mansfield Township.   Henry C. Davis, his son, was among the first Trustees elected for the church along with Charles Stewart, Samuel Vannatta, James M. White, James McCrea, Robert M. Ramsey, and William Ramsey.

Salaries for pastors at the time of building came from selling seats in the church with the ones nearest the stoves costing the most.  Burial in the cemetary was free if you had paid for your pew or $3.00 if you had not.  Pastors from that time often had more than one church they were responsible for.  Since 1887 and through many of the following years, Rockport has shared pastors with Beattystown Presbyterian Church as well as other neighboring churches.
